Sustainability and ecology are among ISAN's core values, which we continuously strive to uphold. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificate, awarded for ISAN Melody bathroom and designer radiators and ISAN Exact radiant convectors, stands as proof of our commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility.
What is an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) transparently presents objective, comparable, and independently verified data on the environmental performance of products and services from a life cycle perspective.
While the EPD represents the final report, the basis of each EPD is a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). The LCA allows the environmental performance of a product to be assessed throughout its entire life cycle. It usually takes into account the complete value chain ranging from raw material extraction, production and use phase to the end-of-life of the product.
The EPD is a Type III environmental declaration in compliance with ISO 14025. Type III declarations are created and registered under a program such as the International EPD® System. EPDs registered in the International EPD System are publicly available and freely downloadable via the EPD Library.
How does the certification process work?
The certification body monitors measurable information regarding the product's exact material composition, raw material and energy consumption at each stage of the product’s life cycle (applies to both products and services), and its contribution (emissions output) to soil and water acidification, water eutrophication, ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, and photochemical oxidant formation. This data is then processed and included in the EPD certificate.
The EPD’s significance for us and our customers
EPDs offer numerous benefits across various sectors. In the construction sector, designers, architects and construction companies are increasingly focusing on sustainability, demanding higher standards. Certification schemes such as DGNB, LEED or BNB include EPDs among the key criteria in their selection procedures.
EPDs make it possible to streamline and transparently document the environmental assessment of products, while also providing a competitive advantage in securing future project contracts. Moreover, in some European countries, EPDs are already partially or fully required by law, encouraging manufacturers to issue them.
The EPD serves as an effective tool for transparent communication regarding the environmental impacts of a product and its production to customers.
